Injured Southern Player to Return to Sanford Stadium

ATLANTA - It has been two months since he was critically injured in a game against the University of Georgia.

Now, Southern University football player Devon Gales is speaking out for the first time. He also plans to make his return to Sanford Stadium for Saturday night’s game between Georgia and Georgia Southern.

The 22-year-old has spent the last two months undergoing therapy at Shepherd Center. He told FOX 5 he is slowly regaining feeling in his hands and fingers. 

Gales and his mother credit his recovery to the love and support from the community. In particular, they said the "Bulldog Nation" has gone above and beyond.

Gales had to be taken out on a stretcher after he injured his spinal cord when he collided with Georgia kicker Marshal Morgan back in September.

Gales said Morgan is the one person he would really like to see at Saturday night’s game.

Gales will spend several more weeks at Shepherd Center. He will then move to outpatient therapy and eventually go home to Louisiana.
