Infant almost hit by bullet after neighbor's gun goes off

A  DeKalb County mother is outraged after a bullet nearly hits her ten-month-old baby girl.

"I had just put her down in her crib and I got in bed when all of a sudden I heard what sounded like glass shattering everywhere," Caroline Mason said.

Mason said she immediately got up to see what was going on.

"I thought someone was breaking in, but then I heard someone at my door," Mason said. "My neighbor came to check on me and told me his gun accidentally went off."

DeKalb County Police said the neighbor's gun went off as he was cleaning his weapon.

"It went through his bedroom wall and all the way through my bathroom and into my bedroom," Mason said. "I am still picking up pieces of glass. I won't let me kids back here. There were huge chunks of glass in my daughter's crib."

Mason showed FOX 5 the bullet hole in her bathroom mirror.

"I am talking about the difference in a few seconds and how differently this story could have turned out," Mason said. "I could have been brushing my teeth. My son could have been brushing his teeth. We are really grateful none of that was going on."

Police were unable to confirm whether or not the neighbor is facing any charges.

"Yeah we were lucky, but what if we weren't," Mason said. "That's the scary part."
