Honor student killed by gunfire

Stepfather Rashad Salaam is still trying to come to grips with what happened to his daughter, Rasheda Evans.

Mr. Salaam was home on Harper Valley Drive with the 16-year-old honor student he affectionately called his "Little Bookworm."

“She was just the kindest, sweetest person… Big heart, huge heart. Next year she was going to be in her junior year. She had all her credits to go, she was an honor roll student. That was my baby," stepfather Rashad Salaam reflected.

Fulton County Police said the Banneker High School honor student was watching a movie on her tablet July 4th when a stray bullet from celebratory gunfire pierced the wall and struck her behind the ear.

"We understand when you really make a mistake. You want to run away from it, but he needs to man up, come forward talk to us and fix the mistake," Lieutenant Scott McBride said.

Police said if you have any information, please give them a call.
