Police officers in Villa Rica are being called heroes after rescuing an unconscious driver from a burning car.

Villa Rica Police Chief Michael Mansour said that Corporal Meredith Ivey was the first responder on the scene of the fire on Industrial Blvd around 1:40 a.m. Monday. Officers Spencer Crawford and Micahiah Swain quickly joined to help.

Dash cam video obtained by FOX 5 shows the dramatic rescue. The officers can be seen pulling driver out of and away from the vehicle.

In a statement released Thursday, Chief Mansour said: “We could not be more proud of these officers. They never hesitated to run towards danger in order to save the driver’s life. Corporal Ivey, Officer Crawford, and Officer Swain put a stranger’s life ahead of their own and performed their duties above anything that could be expected.”

Police said that the driver, who was not immediately identified, was flown to an Atlanta area hospital for treatment.
