Heavy Rain Causes Widespread Flooding across North Georgia
ATLANTA - Christmas Eve got off to a very stormy start in north Georgia. The heavy weather that battered metro Atlanta all night turned severe early Thursday morning and left behind damage in many spots throughout the FOX 5 viewing area.
Several cars in northwest Atlanta were damaged after a tree fell on them in the overnight hours. This took place in the 200 block of Richardson Road. Atlanta police said the strong storm also knocked out power in the area, but it has since been restored. No one was injured.
A rescue team was called out to Northside Drive at Woodward Way were people were evacuated from there homes due to flooding.
The ground is saturated and many communities are started to see significant flooding. Issues with flooding have been reported all over north Georgia including Forsyth County, Gilmer County, Ball Ground, Douglasville, Ellijay and many other spots.
FLOOD WATCH: We are under a Flood Watch until 7 a.m. Christmas Day to account for the potential flooding.
The potential for severe weather isn't over just yet. Showers and strong storms will linger throughout the day, but most storms will just bring heavy rain.
