Three people were killed and two others injured Monday afternoon after a car and a school bus were involved in a head-on crash in Newton County. Authorities released the victims' identities on Tuesday.

According to Georgia State Patrol (GSP), Sammie Lee Sawyer Almore Jr., 37, Daysean Mark Green, 9, and 6-month-old Malcolm Christian-Worthey were killed in the wreck.

It happened along Georgia Highway 162 near Spring Valley Way just before 3 p.m. GSP troopers said a BMW heading northbound crossed the center lane and struck a school bus headed in the opposite direction. There were no children on the bus at the time of the crash and the bus driver was not injured.

Troopers said Almore was driving the BMW. An adult in the front passenger seat, identified as 39-year-old Dessie May Christian, was flown to Atlanta Medical Center.

Three children were in the back of the BMW, including the two young victims. Sashie Green-Almore, 7, was rushed to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.

Troopers said they do not believe any of the occupants inside the BMW were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Investigators are still trying to determine why the driver of the BMW crossed over the center lane. Troopers do not believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
