Governor Deal declares CHD Awareness Week
ATLANTA - Governor Nathan Deal has officially declared this week as Congenital Heart Defect Week.
Families and patients from Children's Sibley Heart Center and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta gathered for the proclamation Wednesday morning wearing red shirts.
CHD affects roughly 1.8 million families in the United States and is a leading cause of birth-defect related deaths worldwide. A number of families told FOX 5 this week means a lot to them.
CHD Awareness Week is from February 7 through the 14.
Wednesday morning's event took place at the Georgia State Capitol.
