Georgia woman who helped save lives during World War II celebrating 104th birthday
JASPER, Ga. - A Georgia woman who helped save lives during World War II and dedicated her life to supporting veterans is preparing to mark a remarkable milestone. Mrs. Lucille McMullen, one of Georgia's oldest living residents, will celebrate her 104th birthday in just a few days.
Born on January 18, 1921, Mrs. McMullen grew up in Pickens County and graduated from Pickens County High School. She went on to earn a nursing degree and joined the Army, where she served as an operating room nurse during World War II.
The Retreat at Jasper, a senior living center where Mrs. McMullen resides, will honor her life and achievements with a special celebration this Saturday. Melissa Dumestre, a staff member at the Retreat, sent FOX 5 Atlanta photographs of Mrs. McMullen ahead of the event.
Mrs. McMullen's legacy serves as an inspiration to all, reflecting her dedication to both her country and her community. As she approaches her 104th birthday, friends, family, and fellow residents will come together to celebrate a life well-lived and her countless contributions to others.
