Georgia Southern student arrested in death of other student

STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say a Georgia Southern University student accused in the shooting death of another student has been arrested.

Multiple news media report that the Bulloch County Sheriff's Office says 20-year-old Coleton Weatherford was arrested Tuesday night after Blake Shurling was found dead with a gunshot wound at a home in Statesboro, Georgia, which is about 210 miles southeast of Atlanta.

Sheriff's Chief Deputy Jared Akins says alcohol was a significant factor in the shooting. He says Weatherford and the 20-year-old Shurling were well acquainted with each other.

Weatherford is charged with felony involuntary manslaughter, reckless conduct and discharging a firearm while under the influence.

Weatherford is being held at the Bulloch County Jail. A bond has not been set. It's unclear whether Weatherford has an attorney.
