Georgia nurse practitioner collecting supplies for Louisiana flood victims

WOODBURY, Ga. - Communities are coming together to help flood victims in Louisiana that has claimed the lives of 13 people.

Barnesville Nurse Practitioner, Jessie Lindsey calls Louisiana home, her parents still live there.  When she heard about what had happened she knew she had to do something.

“Our goal is just to reach and meet the need that is out there and we are trying to do that by getting the supplies together,” said Lindsey.

Lindsey asked her boss for some time off in order to deliver those supplies.  Her boss said yes and spread the word about what the nurse practitioner was doing.  Lindsey said it just took off.

“Emails were sent out, Facebook posts were set and then before I knew it I was getting messages of, are you taking a trailer, can you take coolers with food, can you take boxes, what more do you need,” said Lindsey.

Local churches contacted Lindsey to donate items like water, clothes and diapers.  Strangers stopped by the Barnesville Urgent Care on Greenwood Street where Lindsey works to also donate items.

“It's nice to know that you have people that just want to be able to share, bless others,” said Lindsey.  “We are all Gods tools just waiting to be used.”

According to state officials, more than 40,000 homes were damaged and at least 30,000 people and 1,400 pets were rescued as the storm hit parishes across south Louisiana.

Lindsey plans to leave Friday to Louisiana.  If you would like to donate items you can drop them off at the Barnesville Urgent Care on Greenwood Street.
