GDOT: Major construction suspended Memorial Day weekend

The Georgia Department of Transportation said they want to make Memorial Day weekend travelers have an easier time to make it to their destinations and back home again.

GDOT announced they plan to suspend major construction that would normally impact lane closures between noon on Friday and 5 a.m. on Tuesday. They said their goal is to help drives around major tourist and recreation centers.

Motorist should still exercise caution especially given the high volume of traffic expect during the holiday weekend, according to GDOT. Officials also reminded drivers to buckle up, stay off the phone and stay focused on the road.

GDOT’s HERO service will still be available over the holiday season. To take advantage of that service or to get the latest traffic updates on the road, simply dial 511.
