Police said the shooting occurred outside Forrest Hills Academy at approximately 9:15 a.m. According to the GBI, a man approached the school and tried to get inside. That's when authorities inside the building looked out the window and saw he was holding a gun.

Atlanta Public Schools Police quickly responded and ordered the suspect to put his gun down. Investigators said the suspect didn't fire any shots, but at some point an APS officer opened fire, wounding the suspect.

The suspect has been transported to Grady Memorial Hospital. He is said to be in stable condition. His weapon was later determined to be a BB gun which looked like a pistol.

All of the school's students are safe.
