GBI investigating officer-involved shooting in Atlanta

The GBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a suspect injured.

The Atlanta Police Department tells FOX 5 that one of their officers was involved in a shooting shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday night. 

The incident happened along the 2800 block of Hapeville Road in Atlanta. The GBI says police went to the location to investigate a call regarding a suspicious male.

When police got to the location, the GBI said, they approached a suspect sitting on the front porch with a handgun who fled.

According to officials, the responding officer fired at least one shot during the chase, striking the suspect.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, has been transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

The officer was not injured.
