GBI investigates trooper-involved shooting

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked to investigate a shooting involving a Georgia State Patrol trooper in northwest Georgia.

It happened Thursday afternoon in Dade County in the northwestern part of the state.

Investigators said the trooper tried to stop Brandon Vitier but he wouldn't pull over.

After a short chase, investigators said the Hendersonville, Tennessee man pointed a weapon at the trooper and the trooper opened fire.

Paramedics took Vitier to a Chattanooga hospital in critical condition.

Investigators said his weapon turned out to be a replica gun.
