GBI investigates officer-involved shooting in Cobb County

COBB COUNTY - The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the case of a Cobb County officer-involved shooting Sunday inside the Nelle Lake subdivision in Mableton.

Preliminary information provided by Cobb County authorities indicates that at approximately 11 a.m., officers responded to a 911 call of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Nellie Brook Drive in Mableton.  A responding Cobb County Police Officer made contact with the occupants of the vehicle. 

It was discovered that the vehicle was stolen.  During the incident, the occupants exited the vehicle and attempted to flee the area.  The officer chased after one of the individuals and, after a short distance later, the officer discharged his weapon. 

The individual was struck and received non-life threatening injuries.  He was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he is being treated for his injuries and listed in stable condition.  

No officers were injured during this incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation to determine what occurred during the incident.
