Gas Meters Pulled Out of Apartment Complex
ATLANTA - Code enforcement and the gas company were called to an apartment complex on Verbena Street in Atlanta and discovered the gas meters had been stolen from another complex in DeKalb County. The gas company pulled out the meters, leaving residents without heat.
Sherrell Brooks has two children and she's worried about what she's going to do.
“I know he had to take them because it was illegal, but at the same time, how can we live with no heat, no gas, no nothing?” said Brooks.
FOX 5 News contacted the man who residents said was the manager. The man denied being the manager and said he just helped out the owners who were all out of the country. He wouldn't comment on the gas meters.
A captain with code enforcement talked to the residents of the complex Monday evening. He said the gas meters and other violations are all under investigation. Authorities are working to make contact with the owners.
Some of the apartments have already been condemned. With just days until Christmas, the rest of the tenants said they want answers.
“It's Christmas. We weren't thinking about having to move, we were only thinking about Christmas in four days. Christmas dinner and our kids waking up opening up gifts, but who's going to be happy waking up in the cold?” said Brooks.
