Former Cherokee County chorus teacher charged with sexual assault

A former Woodstock High School teacher is out on bond tonight after being accused of sexual assault.

Police say Ryan McKendrick is accused of sexually assaulting at least two of his students.

News that the one-time teacher has spread throughout the Cherokee County School. McKendrick is accused of inappropriately touching students and showing obscene material on his cellphone.

Cherokee County School Police arrested McKendrick on Saturday. He had been working at the school since 2007 but resigned a week ago.

According to arrest warrants obtained by FOX 5, authorities accused the 36-year-old chorus teacher of groping a student, inappropriately touching another student during both their freshmen and sophomore years, displaying a photo of a sexual nature to a student, and asking a student to "take a nude photo of his friend." 

Woodstock High School student Brian Cueto said that the news was "shocking."

"I never expected, like, anything like this to go around at school," Cueto said. "It's just crazy."

The school district released a statement that read "after conducting an immediate investigation into allegations of inappropriate and unprofessional conduct, our school police department filed charges against the former teacher."
