Flooding causes evacuations, damage in Gilmer County
GILMER COUNTY - Families have had to evacuate their houses after major flooding in Gilmer County Thursday morning.
Flooding has caused washouts, ruined culverts and sinkholes across the area, according to Sheriff Stacy Nicholson.
Crews shut down several roads, including the 1st Avenue bridge near Highway 52. Nicholson told FOX 5 that people should avoid driving if possible.
The Gilmer County Civic Center is open for shelter for evacuated residents.
