Firefighters Surprise Survivor With Presents

COLLEGE PARK, Ga. - A car crash victim rescued by College Park firefighters receives a special surprise this Christmas: plenty of gifts for Danielle Shelton and her whole family.

"I'm grateful for them saving my life, and helping me out," Shelton said.

Firefighters raised money for the woman, and with the help of local businesses, accumulated plenty of gift cards and cash worth $1,000, and presents for her family.

The 27-year-old was involved in a car accident last May that firefighters said involved some of the worst injuries they had ever seen on the job. On Old National Highway, Shelton was run over by a car that sped through a red light, and was found under the car.

Shelton had gotten out of the car along with other drivers to inspect a minor fender bender.

"When we found her she was underneath the vehicle; very, very bad injuries," said firefighter Salvador Carrillo.

"All I remember is just waking up in the hospital," Shelton said.

Shelton has undergone numerous surgeries, and is learning to stand and walk again.

The car crash survivor said she has met and kept in touch with some of her rescuers, but met more of them today during her visit to a College Park fire station.

"I just love all of them, really," she said.
