Firefighters Rescue Worker Trapped in Trench Collapse

Gwinnett firefighters rescued a man trapped in a trench collapse Sunday evening.

According to fire officials, the utility worker was at a home on Rockside Lane in Snellville trying to clear a clogged water line.  The man was working inside a trench in the front yard when the dirt walls collapsed around him and buried him up to his chest.

Neighbors heard the man yelling for help and called 911 around 6:00 p.m.

Officials said the man was conscious, breathing and talking to first responders throughout the two and a half hour ordeal.

Engineers with Gwinnett Fire's Technical Rescue Team freed the man from the hole around 8:30 p.m. and paramedics transported him to a local hospital.  His injuries appeared to be minor.
