From the rubble and debris of his shattered tax business, David Gherezgher showed us the security video of the moment an Emory University shuttle bus crashed through the front pane of glass of ATC Income Tax on Candler Road and Glenwood Avenue.

"This is just surreal. Fortunately, our office wasn't open. But I'm just so glad no one was still standing the MARTA bus stop. They had just gotten on to a bus that picked them up and the intersection was clear. They missed this horrific accident by just a matter of minutes," the business owner said as he stood in the pile of rubble and broken bricks were the 14-year-old business is located.

No one was in path of shuttle when it knocked of course and slammed into the business just after 6 a.m. DeKalb County Police said the shuttle struck by a non-emergency transport ambulance owned by Urgent Care Medical Transport in Lithonia.

Authorities said 10 of the 12 people on the Emory shuttle were taken to hospitals with minor injuries. The bus driver, identified by DeKalb County Police, as 62-year-old Floyd Thomas, bore the brunt of the impact. Fortunately, the Stone Mountain man was not seriously injured and police said he will not be cited. The patient, who was en route to a medical facility, was briefly trapped inside the ambulance. DeKalb County firefighters rescued that patient after dismantling the back door of the ambulance.

Police cited the ambulance driver, Lemonte Weaver, 20, of Decatur, with running the red light here at Candler and Glenwood. Investigators said he told police he fell asleep. No one from Lithonia-based Urgent Care Medical Transport business has returned our calls.

I'm just glad it wasn't worse. Insurance will cover what we lost. I'm just glad everybody was okay," said Gherezgher.
