Fire tears through DeKalb County apartment, dozens displaces

DECATUR, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Several dozen people were displaced Wednesday evening after an apartment fire in DeKalb County.

It happened at the Aspen Woods apartment complex on Flat Shoals Road around 7 p.m. Wednesday. DeKalb County firefighters spent most of the evening mopping up and hitting hot spots in the structure hours after getting the fire under control.

Fire officials said eight apartments were damaged with at least four of those being completely destroyed.

About 25 people, including five children, were displaced.

The Red Cross responded to the scene and will be assisting those families.
