CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. - A 67-year-old man is dead following a house fire in Cherokee County.
Medics rushed him along with his wife, and another couple to the hospital Saturday night for smoke inhalation.
Monday afternoon, fire investigators were back out to the home where a 76-year-old man lost his life.
Investigators said a couple was in town visiting another couple when the fire broke out.
"Everyone was out, we did send ambulances to the scene to transport them to the hospital," said Tim Cavender, Cherokee County Fire.
Investigators said both couples suffered from smoke inhalation. There was also a 5-year-old in the home who was not harmed in the blaze. The fire consumed about 50 percent of the home by the time firefighters could get there.
"We have fire investigators out there this afternoon that are looking for the cause. They haven't informed me yet of what cause may have been. They have to interview people were there, find out if appliances or a heater on," Cavender said Monday.
Cavender said this is the second fatal fire the county has had this year and anytime there's a loss of life it takes a toll on firefighters
"Our main purpose is to protect property and lives, most of all lives. When something like this it definitely has an impact because firefighters are here to save lives," said Cavender.
As of Monday evening, the conditions of the other three people have not been released.
