Fire destroys one home, damages homes next door

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - Cell phone video of a fire on Parklake Court in Gwinnett County shows flames raging out of control inside a home, and threatening two other homes.

Firefighters said 20 people were displaced from the fire and from three damaged homes.

“I ran over there with a fire extinguisher. There was just too much fire,” said Jose Flores, a neighbor who tried to help put out the growing fire.

Gwinnett firefighters said the 911 call came after 5 p.m. Investigators now believe a fire started in a back add-on kitchen, but don't know what cause the blaze.

It took firefighters 45 minutes to put out the raging fire.

The home in which the fire originated suffered a total loss; one neighboring home suffered major roof damage, while another home had minor exterior damage.

Flores said he ran to neighboring homes to get people out safely.

“I went to all the neighbors to try to get them out. Some of them were sleeping... everyone started running out,” Flores said.

Fire investigators plan to review the cell phone video to gather clues as to what caused the fire.
