Family of Veteran Killed by Police Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - The family of a veteran who was shot and killed by police in DeKalb County have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against several people involved in the case. 

Anthony Hill' family acknowledges that he had psychological issues. On the day of the incident, bystanders who saw hill walking around without any clothes on attempted to get him to go back inside.

Christopher Chestnut, the family's attorney, said Hill told them in a jovial manner he wanted to go over and talk to friends. That is how the veteran thought of police, according to the lawyer. Hill approached one officer, but not in a dash or any type of aggressive manner, said Chestnut.

The lawyer said witnesses will be able to counter a claim by the officer that the veteran came over to him and began striking the cop.

In the court filing, the family is asking for unspecified damages. The officer has not been charged.
