Duluth Accepts Canned Goods to Help Pay Fines

DULUTH, Ga. - Do you have a fine that you need to pay in Duluth? The city said it will be giving a break on part of the fine if you donate canned goods.

The City of Duluth Municipal Court is offering the “discount” from Dec. 4 to Dec. 21. They say 10 cans of non-perishable canned goods will get you a credit up to $25 towards a city fine. They said the credit only applies to fines, so it holds no real monetary value. So, you’re not getting any cash back if you’re fine is only $10, but the fine will still be paid in full.

The city also warns that the credit will not cover late fees, license suspensions, or warrant fees.

The court said they will accept cans of vegetables, tomato sauce, beans, tomatoes, fruits, proteins, peppers, corn, mixed vegetables, peanut butter, jelly, and soups of all kinds, but check the label as they will not accept expired items. That also goes for damaged or open cans.

All the canned goods will be donated to the Duluth Co-Op.
