A drug suspect running from police died after being hit by vehicles on Interstate 285.

Late Tuesday night, just before midnight, police got a 911 call about drug activity taking place at the Iron Skillet restaurant inside the Petro truck stop on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway in northwest Atlanta. A responding officer saw two suspects, both of whom bolted on foot, according to police.

The officer chased after one of the men and the foot pursuit took them to the nearby entrance ramp to I-285.

Police said the suspect ran down a hill and onto the highway.  As he tried to cross the interstate, the man was hit by two vehicles. He died on the scene.

The drivers both stopped and cooperated with the investigation.

Police know who the suspect is, but aren't releasing his identity.

Investigators said the other suspect escaped. Officers on the scene didn't give FOX 5 a description.

Witnesses told FOX 5 they saw the man who died charging up his cell phone at the Iron Skillet, before heading out to smoke. They said they talked to him, but didn't ask him his name.
