Driver runs off roadway, ends up in river
ATLANTA - Firefighters rescued a driver who careened off the busy interstate into a river below Tuesday night.
It happened along Interstate 85 southbound near Metropolitan Parkway around 10 p.m. Firefighters said the driver of a Subaru ended leaving the roadways and down an embankment into the South River. The car flipped upside down in the low-level water.
Police said the driver was pulled out of the vehicle by emergency crews and was alert, conscious and breathing.
Police said Metropolitan Parkway at the freeway was shut down for about an hour while wreckers worked to pull the car from out of the embankment.
The driver’s name was not immediately known.
