A man threatening to jump off of an overpass forced all southbound lanes of Atlanta's Downtown Connector to shut down early Wednesday morning.

The incident took place on the Ralph McGill overpass and forced Interstate 75/85 southbound to close at Courtland Street. All lanes reopened just before 6:00 a.m., but heavy delays remained an issue through rush hour.

Investigators said the man who was threatening to jump stood on the overpass near a sign for hours. Police were able to talk him out of jumping and transported him to a nearby hospital to be evaluated.
