Doraville apartment fire displaces 16 people

More than a dozen people are without homes after flames engulfed an apartment building in DeKalb County early Tuesday morning. 

The fire started shortly after 1 a.m. at Shallowford Garden Apartments in Doraville. Responding firefighters described the flames as "intense" and said they did what they could to make sure everyone got out of their homes safely.

One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion at the scene. Officials said the firefighter is doing well and went back to battling the blaze. 

No other injuries were reported.

DeKalb County Fire Rescue said 16 people have been displaced. The Red Cross is on scene assisting those individuals.
