A ferocious blaze destroyed a Paulding County kennel and pet grooming salon. Two dogs and two cats died in the blaze at the Bark Ave Westside on Buchanan Highway.

The fire started early Tuesday morning. By the time firefighters got to the kennel, the fire had spread to the entire building.

Of the six animals inside at the time, only two dogs were able to be rescued, officials said.

The tin roof melted and collapsed in sections. Hours after the fire was out, the building continued to smolder. Yellow tape surrounded the business as well as the remains of two cars our front.

Steve Edwards has taken his Jack Russell, Boo, here to be groomed. "The people were nice and the business was clean, I hate to see it burn," said Edwards.

Edwards says his heart hurts for those who lost pets in the fire.

"I can't imagine losing my puppy in a fire, that would be heartbreaking," said Edwards.

Sean Powell, his daughter, and their dog, Piper, drove by to get a look at the damage.

"Knowing they had the animals inside, that's sad," said Powell.

Powell said it's devastating that the owners lost their business and families lost their pets.

"A loss of life, even though it's an animal, it's still a loss," said Powell.

Authorities do not believe the fire had a suspicious origin currently. The cause of the blaze is still being investigated.
