Do people shower too much?

How often do you shower? Some experts say you may be doing it too often.

Dr. Elaine Larson, an infectious disease expert from Columbia University, told TIME that most people believe they're showering for hygiene or to be clean but in terms of bacteria that's not the case. She says dry and cracked skin exposes people to infection causing germs.

A dermatologist from George Washington University agrees with Dr. Larson saying people only need to shower once or twice per week.

The experts recommend if you want to shower every day to keep from smelling bad then you should just wash your sensitive areas and leave the rest alone.

The same advice goes for hair with the experts saying that people with dry scalp or hair could wash it every few weeks.
