People lined up for hours outside a local dentist's office to ensure they would be seen Saturday at no charge.

The Center for Cosmetic and Sedation Dentistry gave away free cleanings, fillings and tooth extractions to the first 225 people in line as part of its annual "Community of Smiles" event.

"It's just a blessing to be able to give back to the community," said Dr. Nooredin Nurani, who has put on the event for nine years now.

Connie Humphrey arrived at the office at 6:00 p.m. Friday and was one of the first people in line.

"I'm in a really difficult financial situation and not having insurance definitely doesn't help at all either," explained Humphrey, who had two teeth pulled free of charge.

She and many others said they appreciated the staff donating their time.

"It's just so fulfilling when you hear these stories and we're paid by hugs all day," said Dr. Nurani.  "We just wish we could do it every day.  That would be great."

Community of Smiles is held every year on the Saturday after Labor Day.
