DeKalb County to pay $75,000 to convicted killer

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - DeKalb County Commissioners voted to pay a convicted murderer $75,000.

Demetre Mason, 24, was convicted of killing two women in 2014.

But he claimed while he was awaiting trial, he was beaten by a jailer who broke his jaw.

Mason filed a lawsuit against the county.

The jail workers deny the allegations, but this week, county attorneys recommended making the payment rather than going to trial and risking a larger award.
