Deck Collapses During Thanksgiving Celebration
Gordon County - A Thanksgiving celebration was interrupted Thursday when a deck collapsed in Calhoun. It happened around 1:30 p.m. at a home on Ash Court.
Gordon County Battalion Chief Heath Derryberry told FOX 5 the deck was not properly secured to the house. He said there were no lag bolts to hold the side of the deck to the structure. He also noted the piers, wooden legs holding the deck up, were placed on the dirt, not into concrete.
Homeowner Anna Perez said 15 people were on the deck when it collapsed. Ten were rushed to the hospital, including one man who was airlifted with a serious head injury, and a woman who was seven months pregnant.
