Decatur Police warn of dangerous thieves posing as panhandlers

A crew of robbers assaulted a MARTA rider early Monday morning, according to Decatur Police.

It happened at the Decatur MARTA station just before 2 a.m. Police said the thieves posed as panhandlers. The victim was on the last train to Decatur for the night. He told police he was approached by two men who were asking for money as he made his way out of the station onto Swanton Way.

Police said when he disregarded his request, the men attacked, punching him in the face and then stealing his money.

The victim was hurt so bad he had to be taken to the hospital.
