Decatur Police: Men wanted for robbery, assault

Daniel Hertlein, 56, said he can't chew or close his mouth all the way, after getting robbed and clocked in the face in Downtown Decatur.

Police said two men, at least one of which is a juvenile, are wanted in reference to a robbery and assault which happened April 30 just before 6 p.m. Officers responded to the 100 block of Sycamore Street for that call.

Investigators said the men walked by the victim who was sitting at an outdoor dining table and grabbed money which was on the table. The victim told police he confronted the two men, initially thinking they stole his phone, and was repeatedly punched in the face.

The men fled into the Decatur MARTA Station, police said, and boarded the train.

Hertlein is hoping someone can recognize the two men captured in one business' surveillance video.

"The thing that's weird about it is just how bold and confrontational it is," Hertlein said. "What happens when they get tired of snatching $20 off the table and breaking a dude's jaw in front of a Marta station, and it escalates?"

The first suspect is described by police as having a slender build, light complexion, short hair, wearing a white polo style shirt, khaki pants, and black Nike shoes.

Police described the second suspect as having a medium build, medium complexion, short hair, wearing a black T-shirt with a design on the front and blue jeans.

Anyone who recognizes them can contact Investigator Mark Hensel at mark.hensel@decaturga.com or 678-553-6687. Anonymous tips can be made through Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at 404 577-Tips (8477).
