Conyers Police said a deadly gun game maybe the reason a man was found with a gunshot wound to the back of his head on his front porch Thursday morning.

Detectives said 31-year-old Brandon Thomas had been drinking and socializing with friends all night at his Arbor Creek apartment on South Main Street. But about 4:30 a.m.,  neighbors heard a lot of commotion and then a gunshot.

Conyers Police arrived to find Thomas shot in the head and a gun nearby. They initially worked the case as a homicide until the evidence pointed in a different direction. Three witnesses who were socializing with Thomas told police the Thomas was playing Russian roulette and shot himself.

Police now said based on the evidence and the witness statements, the preliminary finding is an accidental death from a gun game. They said ballistic work they sent off to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab will confirm that theory. It will take many weeks.
