Recent scenes of violence from Paris may have looked like Hollywood. But, of course, those scenes were deadly real.

Should ISIS or their sympathizers attempt to start a gun battle here, it would fall to law enforcement, not soldiers, to be the first to respond.

The universal term used by law enforcement agencies is 'active shooter scenarios.' In Cobb County, the police department has quick response capability with well over 90 percent of their officers trained and certified to handle high-powered rifles.

Sergeant Wayne Delk said the weapon is essential. A regular handgun cannot penetrate the body armor a terrorist might be wearing.

Atlanta FBI Director Britt Johnson gives the Cobb department high marks, having seen how officers have handled local active shooter situations.
