Clayton County teen recovering after being hit by car
CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. - A Clayton County girl is in critical condition at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston after being struck by a car. Kamya Taylor, 13, was walking home from school with her twin sister and a friend and was hit while crossing the street Thursday afternoon.
"I'm just asking for people to pray," said Kamya's father Louis Taylor.
The girl's parents are praying she will make a full recovery from the accident, that put the teen in ICU.
Kamya's mom Kori Farmer said, "She did suffer from swelling on the left side of her head they have implanted an electronic monitoring device to monitor the brain pressure as well as a drain."
Kamya attends Jonesboro Middle School. She is popular with her peers, is an honor roll student, a cheerleader, and active in sports.
Louis Taylor said the walls of his daughter's hospital room are covered with cards from classmates offering words of encouragement and heartfelt messages.
"Our daughter is truly loved and we are thankful for the love and support that has been extended to our daughter," said Taylor.
Overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support they've received from Kamya's school, CHOA staff and others, Kamya's mom said the family is encouraged by each small sign of progress in what they know will be a long road to recovery for their little girl.
"We just want full recovery. We want our little girl to be able to swim dance cheer run rack and still be the young lady that she is we don't want to lose any part that she is," said Taylor.
An online account has been set up in Kamya's name for those who wish to make a donation to help with medical expenses while the family focuses on her recovery. That account can be found by clicking here.
