Clayton County Development chair recovering after near-fatal collision

Dr. C.H. Braddy, Clayton County Development Authority

Dr. C.H. Braddy, chair of the Development Authority of Clayton County, was involved in a near-fatal vehicle collision on Feb. 5 after leaving the Clayton County Development Authority Planning Retreat at Clayton State University. A heavy-duty commercial vehicle collided with the side of the black SUV transporting him, causing severe impact, according to Clayton County officials.

What we know:

Emergency responders assessed Dr. Braddy at the scene before rushing him to Grady Memorial Hospital's Trauma Unit for immediate treatment. Medical personnel expressed concerns about possible spinal injury, internal organ bleeding, and significant head trauma.

Despite the severity of the crash, Dr. Braddy has since provided an update on his recovery. In a statement, he said, "I am recovering. I don’t remember much as to what actually occurred. I was being transported by an Uber Black SUV. My personal driver had the day off. Outside of feeling like a train hit me, I’m pretty bruised up and in pain, but I’m not broken."

The backstory:

Before the collision, Dr. Braddy was attending a planning retreat focused on injecting $1 billion into Clayton County’s economy. The ambitious plan emphasized strategic business recruitment, bond financing, and workforce training, as well as small business incubation initiatives to boost local development.

What they're saying:

Dr. Braddy has expressed gratitude for the emergency responders from Morrow, Lake City, and Forest Park EMS, as well as Clayton County Sheriff Levon Allen, Commissioner Demont Davis, Commissioner Tashe Allen, Vice-Chair Randy Burton, and other officials and citizens who reached out to offer support.

"Your prayers worked! What was meant to be ‘tragic’ was deterred by the hand of God. He’s not finished with me. I have a greater call to the world and to continue serving the citizens of Clayton County, Georgia. Thank you for being there," he stated.
