Christmas Song Premiere: 'You’re Never Alone at Christmas'

From "Good Day Christmas List" to "Christmas in Atlanta" to "Don’t Care Where I Spend Christmas," it’s become a tradition over the past decade to present an original holiday song for viewers here on Good Day Atlanta. And after a furious week of recording and mixing both the song and the music video, we finally unveiled this year’s composition this morning: "You’re Never Alone at Christmas."

As with the other songs I’ve written for Good Day Atlanta’s Christmas morning music show, I waited patiently for inspiration to strike (it usually doesn’t happen until late November, at which point I’m beginning to lose that patience…) — and this time around, it came in the form of one word: "simplicity." I wanted to write and record a song with a clear, concise message: that no matter what’s happening during the holiday season, the Good Day Atlanta/FOX 5 Atlanta team is here. Once the phrase "You’re Never Alone at Christmas" materialized in my head, the rest of the song came fairly easily.

The fact is, Christmas isn’t always merriment, eggnog, and ugly sweater parties; the holidays can be a challenging and lonely time. I wanted to reflect that in my song, while balancing it with a feeling of hope. I hope it brings comfort to everyone who listens.

Once again, the immensely talented Alyse Eady lends her lovely vocals to the song, and my big brother Nate was kind enough to add some bass and percussion to the track. The music video features clips from our recent Toys for Tots Great Toy Drop event — big thanks to everyone who came and donated toys to local kids!

So, without further ado, enjoy this year’s Good Day Atlanta original Christmas song — the lyrics are printed below, in case you want to sing along. And if you’re around on Christmas morning, please flip on Good Day Atlanta and join us as we present a morning of wonderful music from a long list of talented performers. And remember, we’re here for you. You’re never alone at Christmas.

"You’re Never Alone at Christmas"

Lyrics & Music by Paul Milliken

It’s been another tough year,

You’re not feeling much cheer,

Writing Christmas cards

But not feeling sincere.

December came too fast,

Summer never seems to last,

Winter’s such a lonely time,

Too many ghosts of Christmas past.

But when your red and green turn blue

Remember what I said to you…

You’re never

You’re never alone

You’re never alone at Christmas

‘Cuz you’ve got me.

You’re never

You’re never alone

You’re never alone at Christmas

‘Cuz you’ve got me.

Making dinner for one,

Microwave and done,

Don’t want to watch TV,

Everyone’s having too much fun.

But when the tree just won’t stand tall,

You know you’ve got a friend to call

You’re never

You’re never alone

You’re never alone at Christmas

‘Cuz you’ve got me.

You’re never

You’re never alone

You’re never alone at Christmas

‘Cuz you’ve got me.
