Twelve local families got the surprise of the season Friday when they learned their entire layaway accounts at a Mableton K-Mart would be paid off in full.

The payments were made by "Payaway the Layaway". The charity raises money to pay for items for families put into layaway. The group picked families whose accounts were made up of at least 90 percent children's items such as toys and who were making an effort to pay off the accounts themselves.

The chosen families were contacted by store officials and told they were getting a gift card for having a layaway accounts. However, when the families arrived it was revealed that their accounts had been paid in full. Atlanta Hawks forward Mike Muscala was on-hand to help deliver the news.

"To be here and see these families and these people and see the smiles on their faces, it means a lot," said Muscala.

Among those whose accounts were paid off was Kimeski Jones, a grandmother who just welcomed her fourth granddaughter just hours prior to learning of her good luck at K-Mart. Jones said she had been praying to God for a way of helping her pay off the layaway account so her grandkids would have a nice Christmas.

"I feel blessed, I feel thankful, I feel grateful," said Jones.
