Child Hit by Bus, Mom Collapsed and in ICU

LILBURN, Ga. - A Lilburn family has suffered a double tragedy after their daughter was hit by a bus and her mother collapsed in the hospital because of her daughter's condition.

Rakelle Davis' uncle, 10, told us his niece required multiple surgeries and was in a coma after being hit last Friday by a bus while walking to school. She has swelling on the brain and damage to her spleen, pancreas and femur.

Daniel Davis said his brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Lisa Davis were checking on their daughter when Lisa collapsed in the hallway at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Doctors told Davis his wife suffered from "Broken Heart Syndrome".

"What they called it was a stress related heart condition also known to us laymen as a broken heart syndrome. It almost sounds not real. It is something they don't seem to have a great explanation for, other than during moments of stress it is possible for your heart to shut down", Daniel Davis said.

Lisa is now out of her medically induced coma, but still in ICU with only 30 percent heart capacity. Rakelle is still in very grave condition and is not out of the woods.

Lisa's husband is torn between two hospitals trying to take care of his family. Chris Davis is an Uber driver and only gets paid when he works.

The family has set up an account for people who would like to donate and help.
