Charter bus carrying elementary school children catches fire

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. - A charter bus carrying several dozen elementary school students caught fire along busy Interstate 75 in Henry County.

It happened just after 5 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the interstate near the exit ramp to Hampton Road the Henry County Police said the fire started after a tire blew out.

Authorities said 51 elementary aged children and four adults were on board. All were able to make it off the bus safely. No injuries were reported.

SKYFOX 5 flew over the scene around 6 p.m. and showed a bus with "His Majesty Coach" written on the back pulled over to the side of the road, its engine compartment and rear baggage areas were open. Fire crews closed down two right northbound lanes and closed Exit 218.

It is unclear what group chartered the bus.

No injuries were reported.
