Charter 737 jet slides off runway at NAS Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - A Boeing 737-800 has skidded off the runway into the St. Johns River at the Naval Air Station Jacksonville, according to officials.

The Jacksonville Fire Chief said all 136 passengers and 7 crew members aboard were accounted for and there were no reports of serious injuries.

Officials are still looking for two dogs and a cat.

The fire chief said the jet was headed to Miami when it went into the river.

Photos shared by the Jacksonville Police Department show the commercial airliner with emergency floatation devices activated, but above water.

In a Facebook post, the Jacksonville Police Department wrote:

"JSO Marine Unit was called to assist NAS JAX in reference to a commercial airplane in shallow water in the St Johns River. The plane was not submerged. Every person is alive and accounted for."

The plane belongs to Miami Air International, a charter airline based out of Miami International Airport which frequently handles military charters like officials said this flight was.
