Calhoun man arrested after violent standoff with deputies at local motel

GORDON COUNTY, Ga. - A Calhoun man was arrested after violently resisting deputies during a disturbance at a local motel, leaving two officers injured.
What we know:
At approximately 11:15 p.m. Feb. 1, Gordon County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a motel near US Highway 41 and Interstate 75 in Calhoun following reports of a disturbance.
Upon arrival, deputies encountered a man wielding a knife and behaving violently. The man, identified as 34-year-old Ezekiel Cooper of Calhoun, refused to drop his weapon and assaulted the deputies.
Cooper attempted to barricade himself inside the motel room but was subdued after a struggle in which he forcefully resisted arrest.
During the altercation, one deputy was bitten by Cooper, while another suffered a cut from broken glass.
Both deputies received treatment at a local hospital and were released with non-life-threatening injuries.
Cooper was also treated for minor injuries before being taken into custody.

Cooper has been charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement officers and felony obstruction of law enforcement. Authorities have not disclosed what led to the initial disturbance at the motel.
