Blue Bell Ice Cream Back in Some Stores

Blue Bell Ice Cream is back and finally on store shelves, if you're willing to drive for it.

FOX 5 was in Wedowee, Alabama Monday morning, as the Blue Bell truck rolled into town. Wedowee is one of a handful of Alabama cities chosen for the first product roll out. Select stores in Texas also began selling Blue Bell again Monday.

The popular ice cream maker shut down production at its plants in Alabama, Texas, and Oklahoma, back in April because of a listeria scare. Several illnesses and three deaths were connected to listeria in the ice cream.

Still, several excited customers waited for the ice cream to be delivered to two Wedowee grocery stores. At this point, the deliveries are limited to four flavors: chocolate, vanilla, a chocolate/vanilla mix, and cookies and cream.

In July, Blue Bell resumed production in Alabama. We don’t know yet when it will return to stores in Georgia.

Blue Bell said it will re-enter parts of 15 states in five phases. Click here to see exactly where you can find it!

Phase One: Brenham, Houston and Austin, Texas as well as parts of Birmingham and Montgomery, Alabama which is where the product is being made.

Phase Two: north central Texas and southern Oklahoma

Phase Three: southwest Texas and central Oklahoma

Phase Four: The majority of Texas and southern Louisiana

Phase Five: Complete the states of Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas. Begin distribution in Arkansas, Florida, northern Louisiana and Mississippi. It will also include only parts of the following states: Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

Blue Bell said it will move to each phase based on product availability and “when it can properly service the customers in an area.”
