Atlanta weather: Enjoy it now, humidity/rain return middle of week

Published August 24, 2026 6:32 AM EDT

North Georgia is getting a brief break from the humidity to start the workweek, but don't get too comfortable. Muggy conditions and higher rain chances are on the way back.

What we know:

Monday morning started noticeably cooler in parts of the region, with temperatures in the 60s across much of the northern suburbs and even the upper 50s in the North Georgia mountains.

Atlanta, however, started the day warmer at 77 degrees.

Despite the relatively comfortable start, temperatures will climb quickly. Atlanta is expected to reach around 91 degrees Monday, with highs around 93 in Covington and 95 in Milledgeville. North Georgia will be somewhat cooler, including a forecast high of 84 in Blairsville.

Code Orange air quality alert

What we know:

While rain isn't expected Monday, air quality could be a concern.

A Code Orange air quality alert covers the metro Atlanta area, stretching roughly from Dawson County south to Pike County and from Newton County west toward Bartow County.

The alert means air pollution could become unhealthy for sensitive groups, including children and older adults. Those groups may want to limit prolonged outdoor activity, particularly during the late afternoon and early evening.

Humidity, rain return this week

What's next:

Tuesday should bring another relatively comfortable morning, with widespread temperatures in the 60s, 70s in Atlanta and some 50s in the mountains.

Humidity will remain relatively low through Tuesday before moisture begins returning to the region.

By the middle and latter part of the week, expect a return to more typical late-August weather. Muggy conditions will increase across metro Atlanta along with the chance for showers and thunderstorms.

☀️ Breakout forecast
