Atlanta man gets more than 9 years in prison on gun charges

ATLANTA (AP) — Federal prosecutors say an Atlanta man who used a straw purchaser to get guns he planned to sell in New Jersey has been sentenced to serve more than nine years in prison.

The 39-year-old Daniel Allen Days was sentenced to serve nine years and seven months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. He pleaded guilty in July.

U.S. Attorney John Horn in Atlanta said in a news release Wednesday that Days had five guns in his possession despite eight prior felony convictions.

Authorities found the guns in Days' trunk when he was pulled over in February 2011. Prosecutors say he was taking the guns to New Jersey to sell. Prosecutors say FBI surveillance revealed that he had used a straw purchaser to buy guns earlier that day.
